How would I know what's a "bad" shortcut without asking. Obviously the pros use a million shortcuts. It's pretty obvious from the above quoted portions that the OP just doesn't want to have to pay money, or learn the details.I.E.a shortcut. I understand it isn't cheap Nicholas, but honestly.money spent actually having even a single track done by a professional, and having a chance to sit and see what he does, or to talk with a guy who knows what he's doing, is money WAY better spent than dropping a bunch of cash on a set of plugins that for one, aren't really that special, and for two, are useless unless you know what to do with them. If there were.the pros would be using them. Stop looking for shortcuts, there aren't any. And then go back and read my first response. Read up on what mastering actually is first, because what you're describing IS NOT mastering. Any mastering house that promises a mastered track (nevermind a mastered ALBUM) in 60 minutes doesn't have any respect for their art, and are simply trying to make a buck off the suckers. I can almost guarantee they're going to do the exact same things to your track that you could do with the plugins you have in Reaper already. Plugins that come will Reaper will do the job for you. It's like a person who has never driven a car is asking what type of car would take him best around in New York.Īnswer 2: Read about mastering. I guess when we are done recording our next release I'll at least send them one track to see if it really does sound a lot better.Īnswer 1: No, there is no such magic button software.

It says on their site they will do one song for you as a free demo just so you hear what they do. $220 for an album under 60 minutes, that's pretty cheap especially for us Europeans as that translates to something like 160€. There's an outfit called LA Mastering Suite ( ) where basically you just upload your stuff to them and get a finished product back. They do exist afterall, so if it's not complete snake oil they must have some effect on your recordings. I was expecting the "go to a mastering studio" answers, but really I was hoping I'd get some real info on whether mastering suites are any good.

I just don't know what comes after acceptable to reach the professional sound and was interested in whether a plugin/suite can just magically add a bit of sparkle to it to make it sound better without very much effort. I've done some demos at home, that will convey the sound of each instrument and are listenable. I'm simply interested in what these can do to make my sound more pro. Yeah I'm looking for the one with the coolest interface and the heaviest bass boom with ultra surround stereo sound.NOT!
But most won't want to lay out their processes on a e if you can sit with one (or even just a good mix engineer) and see what you can learn from them. If you want to do it yourself.the best thing you could do is actually see what a mastering engineer does first.

The last three are what you can do to make your mix louder, but will likely end up with a lot of trial and error which will be both frustrating and probably disheartening. The first answer is my opinion, and will likely net you the best 'pro' results. Just put it on the main bus and add the linear phase EQ with the Opto-compressor, followed by the limiter set to -.03 and with a slow attack and release. It's analog modeling sounds vintage and adds just the right amount of tube warmth without squashing the mix. It comes with everything you need to master your track, and it will get you professional results with little work.ģ. Definitley use Wavelab because it's the best program out there. Ozone is the best, slap that on the master bus and add some EQ, limit and compress until it's as loud as you need it.Ģ. The answer you want to hear is something like:ġ. I prefer a mastering engineer that knows what he's doing, who can give me an objective opinion of the mix, and address the mastering job based on his years of professional work while using his high quality tools.īut I doubt that's the answer you want to hear.
